Have you always wanted to design your own elephant? Here’s your chance! From now until April 15, 2011, it is possible to upload your design on the Elephant Parade [official fan page] Facebook page to help conserve and protect Asian elephants.
The Elephant Parade is an open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues. Famous and upcoming artists contribute to the conservation of Asian elephants and the public awareness of their life-threatening situation. In the past 100 years Asian elephant populations have plummeted from 250,000 to 25,000. Hand painted miniatures are available in shops and online.
It is Elephant Parade’s mission to be the world’s largest financial support organization for the Asian elephant, which is threatened with extinction. The open air art exhibitions attract worldwide attention, as well as much needed public awareness and support for the cause of elephant preservation and conservation: the elephant statues never go unnoticed by the wider public and mass media.
Part of all proceeds from Elephant Parade are donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation, an independent charity that supports various projects throughout Asia, varying from FAE’s Elephants Hospital to the lease of land, where elephants have enough space to mate and live in peace.
Over the past 3 years, more than 7 million euro was raised at auctions in Europe and over 4 million euro was donated to charity. To date, hundreds of Asian elephants have been saved and cured, but there are still thousands of elephants that need our support.
If you’re inspired to get involved, use the elephant image found on the Elephant Parade web site for the basis of your design and then get creative! Elephant Parade will gather the designs from the album “Design your own elephant” on Facebook. Then fans like you will decide which design is the Best Design of the Month by clicking the “like button” on our Facebook page. The design with the most “likes” wins and the person of the winning design will receive a miniature elephant!
The next Deadline is April 15, 2011 so let your creative juices flow and then tell us about your design on “The Eyes of Thailand” Facebook Page so we can support your work!
