At the start of marijuana legalization in Colorado, Amy Poinsett co-founded MJ Freeway Business Solutions with a desire to see burgeoning marijuana businesses expand and thrive with smart business solutions in place. To fill a need for cannabis-specific retail software solutions, Poinsett and her co-founder launched MJ Freeway in 2010. Since then, featured in the INC 5000 fastest-growing companies list, woman-owned MJ Freeway Business Solutions has expanded to include point-of-sale, inventory tracking, manufacturing and cultivation management software platforms, as well as consulting services and cannabis licensee application support.
How do you incorporate gender parity, social justice, and environmental sustainability into your work and the growth of your business/organization?
Founded by women, MJ Freeway recognizes our responsibility to provide mobile, flexible positions conducive to working parents, which we find means we have the right environment to recruit and obtain top tech female talent, thus putting us in a unique position to have more female engineers than the industry average.
By implementing company processes and policies, we’ve helped address diversity and inclusion in cannabis and tech, and hope the cannabis industry as a whole will adopt similar practices. For example, we are a founding company member of Minority Cannabis Business Association to support this organization’s efforts to drive policy that creates equal opportunity for people of color and women to enter the cannabis industry.
