How to make an Elephant-sized Prosthesis
The CIR Casting System, developed by the team led by Dr. Yeongchi Wu at the Center for International Rehabilitation (CIR), was used to create prosthetic limbs for two elephant landmine survivors–Mosha and Motala–at FAE’s Elephant Hospital.

San Francisco Chronicle reporter Geoffrey Cain reports that Sereivathana Tuy has stopped farmers from cutting Cambodia’s nationwide elephant population, which stands at less than 400, an effort which earned him one of 6 Goldman Environmental Prizes in San Francisco, CA on April 19, 2010.

While Baby Dante and his mother Kamnoi have bonded, she is still not able to produce enough milk for him, so the staff at the FAE Elephant Hospital are supplementing her milk with goat’s milk.
New Photos of Motala’s Prosthetic Limb
Here are two pictures of Motala’s new prosthesis, complete with pedicured toenails! Motala, an elephant landmine survivor, stepped on a landmine in 1999 and received her first prosthetic in August 2009.
